▪ In the 1500s, the ruffle was born in Spain. Created by soldiers who slashed their sleeves to create a ruffle. It was also worn by those high in the social class. Later in the 1700s, ruffles were designed into sleeves and ties. The lower class began to adopt the style through the Trickle Down Theory. Now in the modern day, ruffles are no longer seen as unisex; however, are used to emphasize a womens’ dainty nature.
